This is my first attempt at a matte painting. I've done digital paintings and skinning though, so this was a very natural transition. I had a ton of fun working on this piece.

This was done for a really good friend of mine. This will be the book cover for a book she is writing if/when it gets published.

I worked on this painting off and on from aug 2005 to jan 2006. All of it was done with my wacom and cs2.

The peice is amazing! There is so much depth and the composition is great! I do agree with Kaduflyer's Review on the scale of the castle on the mountain being off. I do like the idea of the building being that huge, but it's like a giant lives there (maybe one does?)! But without knowing that, it distracdts. +6/7!

Pros:

Great lighting and mood.

Cons:

The mountain top building looks way out of scale.
Of course being unfamiliar with the story it illustrates it might be deliberate...but the windows for instance are several times larger than the boats on the water...

The mountain would also benefit from some of the sharper, brighter lighting of the building.

Overall opinion/feedback:

A good strong picture that with a little more work would be an exceptional one.
